Facebook, Again

Like most of society I'm on Facebook. It's a love/hate relationship. Love because it is fun keeping up with family and friends, sharing pictures and keeping up with what's going on with them as well as keeping up with the current national buzz. Whatever.

The thing that gets me is sharing other people's photos. Not pics from family and friends, but those puzzle pics or viral pics or silly saying pics; you know what I'm talking about.

Today I see my mother has commented on a photo. It is one of those viral photos with a gazillion likes, shares, and comments. Can I read her comment? No. Well, that's a lie. I can if I choose to scroll through hundreds of thousands of comments to find hers. Can I give her my opinion on the photo? Well, I can comment but it will get lost in the sea of comments and it is highly doubtful she will see it.

What is the point of sharing a photo like that if you can't get the reactions of your family and friends on it? Why share it to your wall if you can't start a discussion there about it?

Well, there is a way but most people don't do it because it is much easier to click the Share button.

If Facebook is supposed to get us interacting with our friends and family in any sort of meaningful way, why can't we have comments on their wall directly under a puzzle picture where we can gloat that we are smarter than they are? What's the point of that?

Wait. Maybe it's time to ditch Facebook and just invite my friends and family over to read my blog and comment. There's an idea.

Who Cares?!

By now most of us have been sucked into Facebook. I mean, who doesn't want to have an easy way to stay connected to family and friends? Just this week some dear friends of mine became grandparents. As busy as they are, it was nice of them to post the news and pictures of the latest addition to the family. I can't complain about that.

But today as I was doing my early Christmas shopping (for myself, of course), I noticed a strange and curious thing as I finished checking out at Amazon. A share button. For Facebook. That's right, folks. With the click of a mouse, I could tell my entire friends and family network what I had just bought myself for Christmas.

Who cares?

And lately I've noticed that my news feed is clogged with notifications that people have read an article on Yahoo. No, they did not post the link to said cool article themselves; the mere fact that they read the article lead to my notification. Do I care what my friends read online? No. Do I really want my friends to know every article I read online? That might lead to a mass exodus of people from my life. My mind wanders and I find myself reading random crap all over the web, from how to tie your shoes underwater, to banana hammocks, to how not to kill your betta fish in three easy steps. I mean, do you care? Do I need to tell you I'm a freak? Really?

No, I'm not leaving comments on random news articles by logging into Facebook. No, I am not going to update my status every time I take a leak, blow my nose, or eat sushi at Feng Shui. I won't bore you with details of real estate market trends, the latest on Snooki, or where the latest sinkhole ate a Jeep.

If I update my status at all, it will be because I have something of importance to share.

Hey, everyone. I bought a camera at Amazon.

Ya think?!

"BREAKING NEWS: Thanksgiving travel rush is under way across US." Really?! Thank you, Yahoo obvious.
